Privacy Policy
Should I? ("we", "our", or "the app") is operated by The Should I Team ("Company"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our mobile application and website at shouldi.fun.
1. Information We Collect
Anonymous users (no account required)
When you use Should I? without signing in, we assign your device a randomly generated anonymous identifier ("Device ID"). This identifier is used solely to record your votes and questions and to prevent duplicate votes. It is not linked to your name, email, or any personally identifiable information.
We also collect a hardware device identifier and, on the web, a browser fingerprint derived from non-personally-identifiable browser attributes (user agent, screen dimensions, timezone). These are used exclusively for vote integrity — to ensure one vote per device per question.
Signed-in users (Google Sign-In)
If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive from Google your email address, display name, and profile picture URL. This information is stored in our database and used to identify your account, send you transactional emails (see Section 4), and provide a consistent experience across devices. Signing in is entirely optional. All core features are available without an account.
Content you post
Questions, context fields, and "Takes" (short comments) you submit are stored on our servers. All posted content is anonymous — your Device ID or account is not displayed publicly alongside your question or take.
Usage data
We collect standard server logs including IP addresses, request timestamps, and response codes. This data is used for security monitoring and is not used for advertising or sold to third parties.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To operate the app and serve your questions and votes
- To enforce the one-vote-per-device rule and prevent abuse
- To send transactional emails to signed-in users (welcome messages, question results, re-engagement — see Section 4)
- To detect and prevent fraudulent activity, spam, and content that violates our Terms
- To improve app performance and fix technical issues
We do not use your information for targeted advertising. We do not sell your data to third parties.
3. Third-Party Services
Should I? uses the following third-party services, each with its own privacy policy:
- Supabase — database and authentication infrastructure. Data is stored on Supabase-managed servers. See supabase.com/privacy.
- Google Sign-In (OAuth 2.0) — optional account authentication. See policies.google.com/privacy.
- Resend — transactional email delivery for signed-in users. See resend.com/privacy.
- Firebase / Expo Push Notifications — push notification delivery for mobile app users. See firebase.google.com/support/privacy.
- Upstash (Redis) — server-side caching. See upstash.com/privacy.
4. Email Communications
If you sign in with Google, you may receive the following transactional emails:
- A one-time welcome email when you first sign in
- A result notification when a question you posted closes
- A re-engagement email if you have been inactive for 7 or more days
These emails are functional and directly related to your use of the app. To stop receiving emails, you may delete your account by contacting us at support@shouldi.fun.
5. Data Retention
Anonymous Device IDs and associated votes and questions are retained for as long as the app operates. Signed-in user accounts and associated data are retained until you request deletion. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data by contacting support@shouldi.fun. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.
To request deletion of your account and all data, visit shouldi.fun/delete-account. To request deletion of specific data only, visit shouldi.fun/delete-data.
6. Children's Privacy
Should I? is rated 17+ on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. We do not knowingly collect personal information from users under the age of 13. If you believe a minor has submitted personal information to us, please contact us at support@shouldi.fun and we will delete it promptly.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you. To exercise these rights, contact us at support@shouldi.fun.
If you are in the European Economic Area, you have rights under the GDPR including the right to data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of Should I? after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
